Confessions of a Filipino Palm Addict

The article below is my entry to PalmAddict Editor-in-Chief Sammual James McLoughlin’s holiday giveaway. I may just win a 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro for writing about how I use my mobile device.

Confessions of a Filipino Palm Addict

My name is Ederic, and I’m a Palm addict. I maintain a bilingual blog (in English and Filipino) on Palm devices at www.makapalm.com.

I started using a Palm-–my girlfriend’s m130–-in early 2003. Later that year, I had my first Palm handheld–an m100, which I eventually sold to a friend because I bought another friend’s m505. I later upgraded to an m515. Last year, I bought a secondhand Treo 650.

Blogging on an EEE

I’m typing entry this using an officemate’s new, black Asus Eee PC with Xandros Linux. She and her husband bought it over the weekend, and she brought it to the office today so I could help in setting up GPRS connection with a Nokia phone.

We tested the Internet connection with the office LAN, and it worked! Meanwhile, to activate the GPRS connection, the Eee had to be in the full desktop mode, which we could not activate because we could not download the needed updates. She asked me to take it home so I could use a direct Internet connection to download and install the updates.

Since I’ve been using Ubuntu for some time already, I did not encounter any problem with the instructions provided on the EeeUser Wiki. The full desktop is now enabled, and the Eee looks better with it.

Trying out Entrecard

I’ve been reading about Entrecard on other Filipino-owned blogs in the past weeks. Entrecard is an ad-exchange network for bloggers. However, because most of my blogs are in Filipino/Tagalog, and to join you must have an “English-speaking blog,” I wasn’t able to sign up as soon as I wanted to.

The other day, I read Janette Toral‘s twit about her Entrecard being featured on a certain site. This made me more curious, so I decided to sign up using this blog, which is in Filipino and English. Looks like this blog’s being bilingual hasn’t affected my acceptance in the network as other members have been dropping their cards on this site.

I’m still learning and exploring Entrecard’s features. For now, I just enjoy dropping my card on other sites and browsing those dropped on mine.

Moblogging on my Palm

Posted by mobile phone:
Whenever I’m in bed already but dreamland remains elusive, I could always browse the World Wide Web and even weave words on any of my blogs. To do this, all I need is my Treo–and enough Smart load to enable me to avail of Smart’s P10 per 30 minutes Internet promo.

I use Blazer, Treo’s default browser. Opera requires Java and crashes very often.

With my Treo’s QWERTY keypad, typing is fast and easy even if I’m lying down–like now.

I guess I should try to sleep now. This post is starting to sound like a tech ad copy.

Good night and Merry Christmas!
